If the Bills don’t make Philip Rivers their next head coach, they’re cowards who hate football.

The best quarterback performances in the NFL this year had nothing to do with stats, scores, or outcomes. They didn’t involve anyone that we consider a top 5 qb, and for that matter probably didn’t even have a top 30 guy under center. I’m talking, of course, about Philip Rivers and Jameis Winston. I watched these games like they were the Super Bowl. No distractions. Two “football guys” just slinging the rock and dodging shapes and colors.

There were five starts total between these two juggernauts, 6 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 1100 passing yards, several dozen prayers, zero swear words, and 0 wins. It was wonderful.

Now the Buffalo Bills have the opportunity to change their entire ecosystem and hire Philip Rivers as their next head coach. Sean McDermot was great during his tenure in Buffalo, and it feels like most of the fans and players weren’t fully on board with ownership’s decision, but now you have to move on. You have to rebuild, and you have to do it with Philip Rivers. He’s been coaching since 2021, and sure, it’s for his son’s high school football team, but the St. Michael Catholic Cardinals went 13-1 in 2025 and lost in their semi-final round while their fearless leader was busy carrying the entire offense on his back in Indianapolis (don’t worry about Jonathan Taylor).

If the Bills want to see a ring during the Josh Allen era, Old Man Rivers is the guy to get it done. -McLane
